Although there were tough times at the beginning with little funds, the Quintanilla family was determined and continued in their quest to create an effective band. Selena Y Los Dinos would gain popularity in the western states in the 1980s. Selena was awarded Female Vocalist and Performer at the Tejano Music Awards in 1986. Selena Y Los Dinos became popular and well-known following this moment. They were featured on a variety of Spanish programming on television such as El Show De Johnny Canales Siempre En Domingo and Sabado Gigante.
